Syria: A photoshopped "revolution"

Hany Farid, a professor at Dartmouth College, has built a career and a reputation as a leading researcher in digital image forensics. He has made software tools for a number of impressive projects in recent years.

According to Worldmathaba Hany Farid, a professor at Dartmouth College, has built a career and a reputation as a leading researcher in digital image forensics. He has made software tools for a number of impressive projects in recent years. One was a pixel-sleuthing program to detect how much fashion photographs have been burnished with Adobe's Photoshop editing program to remove wrinkles and flab, while plumping up lips and breasts. Another was software for the automated detection of child pornography on the Web to help law enforcement agencies.

Mr. Farid has worked with government agencies and companies, but these collaborations have typically been for individual projects. "Research is critical," Mr. Farid said. "But unless you put your ideas into a product, the impact is limited." Mr. Farid is hoping to broaden the reach of his work as co-founder and chief technology officer of a start-up company, Fourandsix Technologies, which is being announced on Tuesday. [...] At a company whose key product has been transmuted into a verb - "to photoshop" - that means to doctor pictures, the technology to authenticate images was not a priority.

At a glance, Fourandsix seems to be in the Photoshop-busting business. Mr. Connor does not see it that way. Photoshop, he said, is "a great tool" - and one that is only misused at times. [...] In law enforcement and photojournalism, Mr. Connor said, there is a clear need for the start-up's product. "There is a business here," he said. "But the open question is what size of a business is it?"

The initial product is for professionals, priced at $890 with an annual fee for updates to the database of digital signatures.

Photoshop and the Syrian crisis

One of the most famous examples of photoshopping during the ongoing foreign-orchastrated Syrian crisis is the photo which appeared in Austria’s largest newspaper Kronen Zeitung on July 28 (first photo below) when readers were treated to the image on the left of bombed out Aleppo. The original photo on the right came from the European Pressphoto Agency and shows a Syrian family that was or wasn’t fleeing for the violence – but the Zionist media moguls apparently needed a more apocalyptic background to communicate their propaganda message against the Syrian government.

In numerous other cases photos of former war zones are used by the media as a propaganda tool in their anti-Assad campaign while photos of pro-government demonstrations in a Hollywood-esque way have been changed into photos of anti-government protestors.

Hajj and repeated restrictions for Shia pilgrims.

Shia Pilgrims Subject to Unexpected Search in Saudi Arabia Shia members of the Imam Shirazi World Foundation(ISWF) were followed by special agents in Medina and their rooms and bags were searched in detail.

Shia Pilgrims Subject to Unexpected Search in Saudi Arabia Shia members of the Imam Shirazi World Foundation(ISWF) were followed by special agents in Medina and their rooms and bags were searched in detail.

Saudi authorities entered the hotel room of all members of the Shia organization and questioned their travel documents and passports and also searched all their bags.

When asked for reason for the search they answered " we are looking for a lost bag"!!

Saudi authorities have always pressured Shia but the unfair treatment is increasing every Hajj year.

Hajj is one of the most important Muslim ceremonies done once a year in the Saudi Arabia where the Prophet Muhammad's shrine and Kaaba, the house of God, are located.

Shia pilgrims have always complained that they are subject to unfair treatments because of their faith; They cannot perform daily prayer using prayer stone, they are forced to pray in a Wahhabi tradition style and they cannot visit their Imams graves in Baqi.

Baqea is a holly cemetery where four of Shia imams' graves are placed along with many other prophet's family members. There used to be a shrine but Saudi government destroyed in so Shia do not visit the graves any more.

Shia who go to Hajj or those who live in this country face human rights violations due to their faith. Saudi government have promised to open dialog between religions and faiths in this country but there was no action done. For more information regarding Shia rights violations in Saudi Arabia read the S.R.W 2012 Saudi Arabia reports.

VERSES IN THE HOLY QURAN WHICH PROVE THE WILAYAT AND IMAMAT OF IMAM ALI

In His Name the Most High

VERSES IN THE HOLY QURAN WHICH PROVE THE WILAYAT AND IMAMAT OF IMAM ALI

The event of Ghadeer was a very special event. It occurred after Hajjatul Wida, The Final Hajj of the Holy Prophet (SAWW). It was an event where the Prophet (SAWW) gave a sermon on his way back from Makkah towards Madinah, in the scorching desert of Hijaz.
The prophet whose sermons are known to be brief and precise even in the comfort of the Masjid is now seen giving a long sermon in the heat of the desert.
What is so important about this message that it can’t wait till they return back to Madina?
An announcement is to be made, the announcement of who is to be the successor of the prophet after him>>>>

 VERSE      1:

O Apostle! deliver what has been revealed to you from your Lord; and if you do it not, then you have not delivered His message(at all), and Allah will protect you from the people; surely Allah will not guide the unbelieving people.

An important Question: What is this issue that Allah (SWT) wants His Messenger (SAWW) to deliver to the people?
The best way to unearth this reality is to look into the verse deeply and seek out the characteristics of this issue. Let us look at some points in this verse:
·         Chapter Maidah was the last chapter revealed onto the Holy Prophet (SAWW) therefore we can conclude that these verses were revealed in the final days of his holy life.
·         Allah (SWT) is calling onto the Prophet (SAWW) with the statement: Yaa Ayyuha al-Rasul, which means O Messenger [of Allah]. This is very rare in the Holy Quran, and it has only occurred once more in this great book. This is a sign that what is being said is of very great significance.
·         The issue referred to in this verse is of very high importance. Such is its importance that it is equal to Messenger-hood itself. Because Allah says in this verse: “and if you do it not, then you have not delivered His message [at all].”
It shows that this message has such a level of importance that the whole of the Prophet's mission would be ineffective without it.
·         It is also an issue of deep concern for the Prophet (SAWW). That is why Allah (SWT) is telling His beloved Messenger (SAWW): “and Allah will protect you from the people; surely Allah does not guide the unbelieving people.”

Let us ask ourselves. .
v  What event can have such a high level of importance?
v  What is this event, that if it is not announced and delivered, the whole mission of the Prophet (SAWW) would be rendered fruitless? The wars, the struggles, the various tests and difficulties and the task of deliverance and preaching?
v  What issue is so sensitive, that announcing it can have some unwanted circumstances for the Prophet (SAWW) such that Allah (SWT) tells the Prophet (SAWW): “and Allah (SWT) will protect you from the people”?

Anyone who considers these points impartially will realize that this important issue is that of Khilafah (succession after the Prophet (SAWW)).The issue of who is to take control of all the matters of religion (including governance) after the Prophet (SAWW).

This conclusion can be drawn without referring to any narrations. Yet there are numerous narrations not only in the books of Shiahs,
but also in some of the most authentic books of our Sunni brothers. An example is from the Sunni Tafsir of ibn Abu Hatim where the author quotes a narration from Abu Said al-khudhri, where he says:
نزلت هذه الآبة "یا أیُها الرَسول بلغ ما أنزِل الیک من ربک" فی علی ابن ابی طالب
The verse “O Messenger [of Allah] deliver that which has been revealed onto you from your Lord" has been revealed about `Ali the son of Abu Talib.
Tafsir ibn Abi Hatim Vol. 4 Pg. 1172 Hadith no. 6609
Note: in the beginning sections of this Tafsir, the author says that: “I have chosen the most authentic narrations [in this book] in terms of the chain of narrators and matter”
Tafsir of ibn Abi HAtim Vol. 1 Pg.14
Based on all these reasons, there is no other explanation of the event referred to in this verse apart from the event of Ghadir, when Imam `Ali (AS) was chosen as the successor of the Holy Prophet (SAWW).

‘Innocence of Muslims’: The film that may have sparked U.S. Embassy protests.

A man walks inside the U.S. Consulate, which was attacked and set on fire by gunmen yesterday. (Esam Al-Fetori /Reuters)

A low-quality film mocking the Muslim Prophet Muhammad reportedly sparked a protest that ended with Libyan Islamist extremists attacking the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, killing U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other foreign service workers. Earlier on Tuesday, a group of Egyptians scaled the walls of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo and tore down the American flag, angry over the same movie.
So what is this film, and who made it?
A 14-minute clip of the extremely amateur "Innocence of Muslims" film shows the Prophet Muhammad as a homosexual who endorses extramarital sex and pedophilia. (Many Muslims consider physical or visual representations of Muhammad to be blasphemous.)
Clips of the English-language film, attracted attention in Egypt only over the past few days when someone posted a clip that had been dubbed into Arabic, according to the New York Times . Some Egyptian TV hosts began airing the clips over and over , portraying it as a Coptic Christian and American plot to denigrate the prophet. Morris Sadek, a Coptic Christian from Egypt and critic of Islam who now lives in the United States, told AP he recently began promoting the film  clips, which might also explain their rise out of obscurity. Florida pastor Terry Jones, best known for burning a copy of Islam's holy book in 2011, has also been publicizing the film.
Though much remains murky about the movie and its origins, the Wall Street Journal tracked down and interviewed a person who claimed to have written and directed the movie, a real estate developer named Sam Bacile . Bacile told the Journal that he made the film to portray Islam as a hateful religion:
"Islam is a cancer," he said in a telephone interview from his home. "The movie is a political movie. It's not a religious movie."
Mr. Bacile said he raised $5 million from about 100 Jewish donors, whom he declined to identify. Working with about 60 actors and 45 crew members, he said he made the two-hour movie in three months last year in California.
Bacile told the AP that he is now in hiding , and that his full movie has only been shown once, to a nearly empty theater in Hollywood. But the AP added that anonymous "Israeli officials" said there was no record of a Sam Bacile being a citizen of Israel. Another person involved in the film, Steve Klein, told The Atlantic that he believes Bacile is a pseudonym, and that he doubts his claims that he is Israeli . (Klein said he met the person who made the film, but didn't know his real name.) And others have raised questions about Bacile's claim that the movie had a $5 million budget, based on the nearly unwatchable trailer's low quality. The New York Times could not verify whether a full two-hour version of the movie even exists, as Bacile claimed, since only portions of the film have been posted online . The Times also noted that Bacile identified himself as 52 years old in one interview and 56 in another.
In an even stranger twist, NPR's Sarah Abdurrahman noticed that every specific reference to Muhammad or Islam in the movie's trailer appears to be dubbed over  what the actors actually said. Without the lines that insult Islam, the trailer "reads like some cheesy Arabian Nights story," Abdurrahman writes. In a statement given to CNN, the cast and crew of the film said they were "grossly misled" about the movie's purpose and said they feel "taken advantage of." One of the film's actors told Gawker that the cast was told they were acting in a movie called "Dessert Warriors,"  and had no idea it would be altered to have an anti-Islam message. She said the film's director, whom she now plans to sue, said he was Egyptian.

Iran Produces Film on Prophet Mohammad’s Life.

As anger is at its peak all around the Islamic world at the US produced anti-Islam movie that offended Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), award-winning Iranian director Majid Majidi announced that his new movie on Prophet Mohammad's life is almost completed.
The movie, which cost over 30 million dollars - the highest budget spent on a film in Iran in the past two years - is a three part historical epic that narrates the prophet of Islam's childhood, specifically before he was 12 years old, that before the revelation, and his life after revelation and the spread of Islam.
The shooting of the fim started last October in south Iran, and the movie is expected to be broadcast in December.
Iranian directors had issued a statement on Friday , condemning the "Innocence of Muslims" film that insulted the Islamic Prophet, reassuring that "such a move would never harm the radiant face and image of Prophet Mohammad".
In a separate statement Majid Majidi also condemned the move, saying that "those who have produced the sacrilegious film intend to portray Islam and its prophet as a Taliban-like sect, but to no avail."
According to Fars news agency, "the statement further blamed the regional dictators who have been recently overthrown by their people for such a desecration of Islam, cautioning that their lack of action in previous cases has emboldened such arrogant individuals".

Iraq’s top Shiite cleric calls on U.N. to criminalize insults against prophet.

Iraq’s top Shiite cleric Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani urged U.N. to make any insults against Prophet Mohammed an offense.

The United Nations should criminalize any insults against Prophet Mohammed, Abdul Mehdi al-Karbalai, the representative of the top Shiite cleric Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani in Iraq, said during his Friday sermon.

Iraqi protesters burned U.S. and Israeli flags as thousands of people demonstrated for a second day Friday in cities and towns across Iraq against an anti-Islam film that has sparked outrage in the Muslim world.

Karbalai said that “these repeated abuses could threaten peaceful life, especially among (religiously) mixed peoples.”

He also condemned violence in response to the film, which portrays the Prophet Mohammed and Islam in a negative light, and sparked deadly fury in Libya, where four Americans including the ambassador were killed on Tuesday in a mob attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi.
In the biggest protest, thousands of people turned out in the southern port city of Basra, carrying Iraqi flags and shouting slogans including: “There is no freedom by abuses to the feelings of two billion Muslims.”

The protesters burned American and Israeli flags, an AFP correspondent said.

Hundreds of people also protested in the Sunni-majority Adhamiyah area of north Baghdad after Friday prayers, while dozens of people, mainly from various Shiite parties, also demonstrated in the capital’s Tahrir Square.

In Sunni-majority Ramadi, west of Baghdad, hundreds of people demonstrated against the film.

Hamid al-Fahdawi, one of the protest organizers, told AFP that demonstrators want the Iraqi government to dismiss the U.S. ambassador and cut economic ties with the United States.

Dozens of demonstrators also turned out in the former Sunni insurgent stronghold of Fallujah, also west of the Iraqi capital.

Sadr al-Din al-Qubanchi, a senior Shiite cleric who leads Friday prayers in the shrine city of Najaf, called for the United States to apologize to Muslims and surrender all those who worked on the film to a special Islamic court.

The governor of Nineveh province, Atheel al-Nujaifi attended a demonstration against the film in Mosul, in north Iraq.

There were also protests in various cities in Diyala province, and in other cities and towns including Hilla, Amara and Nasiriyah.

India: 2 Muslim killed in police firing, 45 policemen injured in Mumbai violence+pics.

Two Muslim youths were killed in police firing and at least 55 injured, including 45 policemen, when a protest in Mumbai, capital city of Maharashtra state, against Assam riots turned violent Saturday and demonstrators clashed with the men in uniform.

The rally was being held to denounce riots in Assam and also attacks on a minority community in Myanmar.

Hundreds of people turned up at Azad Maidan Ground, the popular protest venue, in south Mumbai this afternoon on a call given by a city-based outfit, Raza Academy, to denounce the riots in Assam and also attacks on minority community in Myanmar. Awami Vikas Party (AVP), a political outfit floated by former police officer Shamsher Khan Pathan, also took part in the protest.

The protesters suddenly turned unruly and set afire vehicles of the media and the police, damaged buses and indulged in stone-pelting.

'Police used lathi-charge, tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the violent crowd and in the end fired in which two persons were killed,' Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithivraj Chavan told reporters in Mumbai late Saturday night, a pti repor said. He said 'police could have used more force but the fact that 45 policemen were among the injured proves that they did everything possible to control the mob'.

'Two youths, Mohammed Umar (22) and Altaf Shaikh (18), who were injured in the violence and were in critical condition, died while undergoing treatment at St George Hospital.'

Chavan said besides the 45 police personnel 10 others were also injured.

Awami Vikas Party (AVP), a political outfit floated by former police officer Shamsher Khan Pathan, also took part in the protest.

The protesters suddenly turned unruly and set afire vehicles of the media and the police, damaged buses and indulged in stone-pelting.

Among the injured were some mediapersons, including Prashant Sawant of `Sakal Times' and Vivek Bendre of `The Hindu'. All injured were shifted to J J Hospital, St George Hospital, GT Hospital and Bombay Hospital, police said.

The Chief Minister said the Crime Branch has been asked to probe 'whose hand was behind the violence and how the protest turned so violent'.

Police said the situation was brought under control in an hour and normalcy has returned to the area.

Chavan said a high alert has been sounded all over the state and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Rapid Action Force (RAF) and State Reserve Police (SRP) personnel have been requisitioned.

He said the miscreants began damaging public property soon after the protest rally began at Azad Maidan.

Mumbai Police exercised maximum restraint in quelling violence and resorted to firing only as the last option, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said.

'Police used lathi-charge, tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the violent crowd and in the end fired in which two persons were killed,' he said.

On the mandate given to Crime Branch to probe the incident, Chavan said, 'The investigation will explore the possibility whether it was a preplanned act and also delve into conspiracy angle, if any.'

Replying to a query on any arrests made in the wake of the violence, Chavan said 'some' people have been taken into custody for questionning.

On the security scenario, the chief minister said, 'Police bandobast has been stepped up in the city and state. 18 platoons of para-military forces have been deployed'.
